We are hiring.

We are an impact-driven team of scientists and entrepreneurs.

Operating out of our laboratory in West London, our goal is to scale the  production of high-performance, fire-safe insulation materials.

Meet our senior team:

Dr Samuel Cryer

  • Sam holds a PhD in organic chemistry from Imperial College London and is the inventor of Thermulon’s novel aerogel process. Sam stands at the intersection of materials science, entrepreneurship and sustainability; commercialising the production of Thermulon’s aerogels with one clear goal: to reduce the carbon footprint of the building stock and enable a net-zero future.

Alex Murdock

  • Alex brings a range of experience in chemical and process engineering, having worked on projects in medical gas R&D at Air Liquide and in product development Daimler’s Fuel Cell Initiative. He joined Thermulon from a top global engineering consultancy (HATCH) where he worked as a process engineer for industrial-scale chemical & metallurgical facilities. He leads Thermulon’s scale-up, process engineering and lab team.

DJ Marker

  • DJ is an experienced Board Director and Operations Director and has previously built and implemented operations and scale-up strategies in high growth companies across sectors

Established in 2019, Thermulon is backed by high-impact VCs
(including Deep Science Ventures, Sustainable Ventures and
Sky Ocean Ventures), as well as a strong community of
angel & crowdfunding investors.

Meet our technical team:

Alyne brings more than 8 years of aerogel experience to the team particularly in silica and silica-carbon aerogels. Alyne obtained her PhD in Chemical Engineering at University of Coimbra. Alyne works on the development, optimisation and improvement of synthetic pathways of nanoporous inorganic aerogel materials.

Dr Alyne Lamy
Managing Process Chemist

Dr Stephen Parirenyatwa
Managing Scale-up Engineer

Stephen’s background is in the development and scale-up of a novel processes; earning his PhD in Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Leeds focusing on the extraction of critical materials from mine waste. Stephen is responsible for Thermulon’s continuous production methodology.

Chiara Zafferri
Junior Process Chemist

Chiara earned a 2-year master degree in Industrial Chemistry at the university of Parma. She has been involved in developing high throughput methods for NMR and LC-MS screening for Plant Metabolomics. Her work focuses on optimising  the synthetic pathway for the production of inorganic aerogel powder

Dr Lukas Thoni
Senior Process Chemist

Lukas brings several years of aerogel experience to the team, having worked with other oxidic aerogels besides silica. His PhD research focused on developing aerogels as catalysts in heterogeneous catalysis. Lukas works on lab scale and upscaling of different processing steps.

Dr Katherine Macmillan
R&D Chemist

Katherine has over 9 years of experience with hands-on laboratory work, ranging from soft matter physics, to wet chemistry. She is also trained in a wide range of analytical techniques. After completing her PhD at the University of Edinburgh, she completed post-docs in both Dusseldorf and Utrecht.

Our values

We are an impact-driven company: we know that if we achieve our vision, we will make the world a better place. This impact excites us and drives us every day.

We love what we do and we pull together as a team: we rely on each other for skills and experience. As scientists, we are inquisitive, we innovate and we are always learning. We always seek opportunities to learn from each other and teach each other. We empower our scientists’ work with our state-of-the-art aerogel laboratory in West London and access to world-class analytical facilities.

We work with decisiveness and a sense of urgency: we can have a huge impact when we collaborate and grow together and this means we move at a pace. We care deeply about Thermulon being a fun and fair place to work and do our best to support our team in and outside of the office.
